The Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival has been held annually at the end of Buddhist Lent for more than 140 years. The main purpose of this event is to express gratitude to buffaloes for their hard work helping farmers throughout the year. Every year, farmers from all over Chonburi province gather together and bring their buffalos with them to participate in this annual competition.

How people celebrate Buffalo Racing Festival

Besides buffalo racing, which is the main highlight of the festival, Buffalo Racing Festival also offers a variety of enjoyable activities to showcase the animal, such as the Most Healthy Buffalo Contest, Buffalo Fashion Contest and a parade of beautifully decorated buffalo carts. This festival also features the annual Miss Buffalo beauty pageant, local food stalls, numerous pop-up shops and concerts.

 

Getting to Chonburi

Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival normally takes place at the field in front of Muang Chonburi District Office and the field in front of the Chonburi Governor House. One of the most convenient ways to get to Chonburi from Bangkok is by bus from the bus terminal of Suvarnabhumi International Airport. From the airport bus terminal, it is 85 km to Chonburi and takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes.
