Indein Pagoda Festival

The Indein Pagoda temple complex is situated on a narrow creek away from the main body of the lake, surrounded by bamboo forests. The Festival runs for a period of three days each October, when indigenous communities from the mountains come down to the stunning temple complex to pray and make merit by giving food to the local monks.

The ceremony takes place amid the spectacular temple setting, where hundreds of ancient stupas are clustered on the hillside. One of the whitewashed stupas an enshrined image of the Buddha, which takes centre stage at the festival. The religious ceremony itself is a flurry of colour, with the chime of bells ringing in the background.

Getting to Indein

To reach the Inle Lake area, take a taxi from Heho Airport to Nyaung Shwe. From here, you can board a boat that till take you to the old village of Indein.
