Revealing Exciting Updates and Expansion Plans in Anniversary Year at ITB Berlin

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2023, will attend ITB Berlin this week to meet with the world’s travel trade and reveal all its latest activities, news and future growth plans, as its global portfolio continues to expand, including with the eagerly anticipated opening of its debut hotel in Japan this July – Centara Grand Hotel Osaka.

2023 marks 40 years since Centara first introduced its warm and genuine hospitality, inspired by authentic Thai family values, to the world. This milestone comes at a defining moment for the company as it steps confidently into a bright new era, driven by the revitalisation of global travel and tourism. Moving ahead with its long-term vision to become one of the world’s top 100 hotel operators by 2027, Centara has firm plans to open six new properties this year, under three of its brands.

The group will reinforce its leadership position in Thailand with the addition of five new properties, including a 160-key hotel in Ubon Ratchathani, a 200-key property in Rayong (Q4), a 224-key hotel in Ayutthaya (Q4), a 110-key property in Surat Thani (Q4) and a 61-key resort in Koh Samui (Q3). These five new domestic hotels will be complemented by upgrades and renovations to existing properties. Meanwhile Centara’s international strategy will reach an important milestone on 1st July 2023 with the opening of the 515-key Centara Grand Hotel Osaka, a spectacular 33-storey five-star hotel that will mark the group’s debut in Japan.

Looking ahead, Centara will continue to pursue diverse development focusing on opportunities in ASEAN countries, including Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as joint ventures in China. The Middle East footprint will also be a focus for growth whilst the company will also keep an active eye out for suitable investment opportunities in key global gateway cities, should they match with the company’s objectives and aspirations. The opening of new regional offices in Ho Chi Minh City, Shanghai and Dubai in 2023, and in Osaka in 2024, will amplify the company’s worldwide presence and strengthen its platform for business development and growth. This year in total, Centara expects to conclude the signing of 10 new hotels which will include properties in Thailand, Vietnam and Qatar.

Centara Reserve, the personalised, design-led luxury brand that made its global debut in Koh Samui in December 2021, will illuminate more parts of the world in future with projects in the planning stages in Hua Hin, Krabi, and the Maldives.

Every aspect of Centara’s development will be undertaken in a responsible and sustainable way. The group is working towards several important environmental targets, including the elimination of single-use plastic by 2025, achieving Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certification for all properties by 2025, a 20% reduction in energy, waste, water and greenhouse gas emissions by 2029, and overall net zero emissions by 2050.

“Centara is delighted to return to ITB Berlin as we embark on an exciting year, which will mark our 40th anniversary. Our travel trade friends can learn about all our latest openings, such as Centara Reserve Samui and our spectacular Centara Mirage resort in Dubai, as well as the new properties we have in the pipeline – including our soon-to-open, showstopping Centara Grand hotel in the heart of Osaka. We look forward to meeting with all our esteemed industry partners and creating lasting relationships that will stimulate the growth of travel, tourism and hospitality all around the world,” said Thirayuth Chirathivat, CEO of Centara Hotels & Resorts.

Centara will be at ITB Berlin from 7-9 March 2023, with a main booth in Hall 26B, Stand 223, and a dedicated booth for the group’s resorts in the Maldives, at Hall 5.2A, Stand 106.
