If you are travelling to the picturesque island getaway in the Gulf of Thailand, make sure you save space on your itinerary to indulge in the Koh Samui shopping experience. Whether you spend the day in the cool air-conditioning of CentralFestival in search of the perfect souvenir, or wander the many walking streets this island has to offer, Koh Samui has something to suit any seasoned shopper or casual browser. Here are our top picks of the best places near COSI Samui Chaweng Beach to spend your hard-earned baht.
CentralFestival Samui
If there’s something you’ve got your heart on, you’ll most likely find it in CentralFestival Samui, the largest mall on the island. Located between Chaweng Beach Road and the lake, the shopping extravaganza houses 200 international and local designer brands, plus plenty of entertainment and dining, in four zones – Chaweng Port, Bird Cage, Fisherman Village, and Beach Town Market.
Chaweng Port is the main entrance on Chaweng Beach Road and features restaurants and bars set around a large outdoor terrace. It consists of two levels with dozens of vendors providing a large selection of food and beverages, so come hungry!
Located in the central part of the mall, Bird Cage is the destination for all things fashion, offering the latest fashion apparel and accessories. In addition to large brand name shops, there are also plenty of smaller boutiques to peruse.
The anchor Central Department Store is located in Fisherman Village, a zone which carries a wide selection of apparel and home goods. A children’s playground and seating area for parents make this section popular with families. The second floor has an XD Theatre, 6D rides, and the Horror House Pirate Adventure.
Beach Town Market is the second main entrance on the northern end of the complex, next to Phru Chaweng Public Park. This zone offers a partial open-air food court on the ground floor and a gaming arcade on the second floor.
Fisherman’s Village
While air-conditioning is a much welcome relief on hot days, walking streets on Koh Samui are definitely a shopping experience you don’t want to miss.
Draped along the northeast coast along Bophut Beach, Fisherman’s Village is one of the most popular shopping strips on the island. Rustic wooden shophouses give the narrow street an atmospheric vibe, with beachside restaurants serving up fresh seafood with a delicious view.
While the Village is fun to visit any day of the week, The Fisherman’s Village Walking Street that sets up here every Friday night from sunset to around midnight is everything you dream an island shopping experience should be – busy, fun, with jovial vendors hawking trinkets, souvenirs, and of course, plenty of street food to fuel your retail adventures.
Chaweng Walking Street
If you are looking for budget friendly bargains on just about anything from beachwear to carved wood trinkets, all while sipping on your favourite beverage while tucking into local fare at the food court, then this is the street for you. Located in the island’s most vibrant neighbourhood, Chaweng Walking Street opens from Monday to Thursday, and again on Saturday, from just before sunset to around midnight.
Lamai Walking Street
Not one to miss out on the walking street trend, Lamai also has its weekly retail affair on Sunday nights, albeit smaller in scale than Chaweng and Fisherman’s Village. Don’t let the size put you off though, because the atmosphere is equally fun, with similar food, handicrafts, and beach essentials you’d find in the bigger markets. The beach road is closed off to traffic for the walking street which takes place from late afternoon to approximately 10 p.m.
