Thailand is world-renowned for its fragrant, scrumptious cuisine – and its gorgeous, fresh fruits are no exception. Whether you are enticed by the flavour of a sweet, ripe mango or the tender flesh of a rambutan, Thailand’s rainbow of fruity offerings caters to all tastes. The province of Trat is recognised as one of the country’s principal fruit growing areas; an export that is celebrated each year at the province’s annual fruit festival.

Trat Fruit Fair

The Trat Fruit Fair usually runs from May 13-15 and is well worth a visit if you happen to be exploring this area of Thailand. A host of crops are in season at this time of year, including durian, salacca, rambutan and the marian plum. These are just a few of the fruity delights you can expect to feature heavily in the festivities.

Most of the events take place in front of Trat City Hall at the centre of town. Colourful exhibitions are set up for visitors to enjoy, showcasing the best of local produce. A colourful parade is one of the festival highlights, featuring an array of dazzling floats, all of which are adorned with illustrations of Thailand’s most colourful fruits. There are many activities to get involved with, too, including games, crop shows and contests.

If you have any extra time to explore the surrounding area, why not head to one of the local fruit farms? Many farmers open their farms up to tourists, who can tour the grounds and taste the local produce at its very freshest.

Getting to Trat

If you’re travelling by air, regular flights link Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to Trat. Multiple buses per day also connect Thailand’s capital city with the south-eastern province, leaving hourly from Ekamai bus Terminal.
