Dr. Ronnachit Mahattanapreut, Centara’s Senior Vice President - Finance & Administration (middle) received the Thailand Sustainability Investment (THSI) 2020 Award for the third consecutive year and Outstanding Investor Relations Award for the second straight year from The Stock Exchange of Thailand.
Centara Hotels & Resorts (SET: CENTEL), Thailand’s leading hotel operator, has been awarded Thailand Sustainability Investment (THSI) status for the third consecutive year by the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) in recognition of its outstanding performance across Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects.
CENTEL was also named as a recipient of the Outstanding Investor Relations Award, the second straight year the group has been rewarded this accolade, further solidifying Centara’s reputation of care for its employees, guests and investors.
The THSI designation aims to motivate companies for their efforts towards sustainability while meeting investors’ increasing demands for relevant insight and information for use in responsible investment decision-making.
The SET’s Best Investor Relations Awards were launched to assess and recognise exchange-listed companies based on a number of investor relations attributes. Companies are chosen from among five sub-categories based on total market capitalisation, with a sixth category for companies listed on the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI).
Centara Hotels & Resorts has demonstrated a long-held commitment to adopting company-wide sustainable practices, operational innovations and supply chain management efficiencies. On the path to reaching its financial goals and following good governance business practices, Centara continues to look for ways to create a positive social impact and reduce its environmental footprint while fostering innovation to sustain its industry competitiveness.
The company has been supporting environmental, social and innovation initiatives since 2008, spanning energy, water, waste and safety management. Centara also promotes stronger engagement of management, staff, suppliers, guests and community members, to support both the long-term growth of its business and the vitality of the destinations where it operates.
More recently, Centara implemented a number of natural resource and environmental management programmes including “Journey to Zero” – a waste and environmental impact initiative that includes plastics reduction, waste separation management, and food waste reduction programmes. An energy-saving initiative saw the installation of solar cells and EV charger stations at several properties, while other environmental projects involved water resource management, as well as increasing green space.
"Sustainability is good for the environment, good for the community, and makes good business sense. Not only does it create long-term returns for our investors, but it shapes what we stand for and how we conduct ourselves.”
said Thirayuth Chirathivat, Centara’s Chief Executive Officer.
“Despite 2020 having been a challenging year for the hospitality industry worldwide, we are proud to remain committed to our corporate governance principles, as we continue to embrace sustainable development practices wherever we operate.”
Thailand Sustainability Investment (THSI) was first created in 2015 to recognise companies that adopt ESG principles into responsible and sustainable business management to create a positive impact on the Kingdom. Centara earned THSI designation for the first time in 2018. This year, the SET selected Centara as one of 124 listed companies that incorporate a high level of ESG practices to support sustainability. This effort is in line with the SET’s vision “To Make the Capital Market Work for Everyone”, supporting a vision of capitalism that benefits all stakeholders.
