In a city known around the world for its parties, it’s no surprise that New Year’s Eve in Bangkok features some excellent places to come out and celebrate. If it's sipping luxurious cocktails by the river while viewing spectacular fireworks or joining Bangkok's biggest party countdown at CentralWorld, Bangkok really has it all for those looking to ring in the New Year with their family and friends.
CentralWorld
As you may expect, Bangkok has plenty of bars, clubs, and public places with a great atmosphere – but the New Year period in Thailand does need some planning. In terms of regular outdoor venues, CentralWorld is right at the top of the list. The party happens right in front of this landmark shopping complex, and is typically full of snack stalls, live entertainment including DJs and bands, and a specially constructed beer garden. Most years, over 100,000 people attend – so get there early and be ready to celebrate the New Year with an immense crowd. When it’s time for the fireworks to go off, the energy in the crowd is truly electric. CentralWorld is easy to reach via BTS (Skytrain), as it is located near Chit Lom station.
Mahanakhon SkyBar
If you want to ring in the New Year at one of Bangkok's famous rooftop restaurants and skybars, we suggest the renowned Countdown Party at the Mahanakhon SkyBar. As Bangkok's highest skybar, you are sure to have a night to remember while watching mesmerising fireworks in a deluxe surrounding with the very best fine dining and drink options Bangkok has to offer. Due to its popularity, it is essential that you book ahead to avoid disappointment.
ICONSIAM
The recently opened ICONSIAM presents another fantastic place for a New Year countdown. Offering an eco-friendly firework display that stretches over 1,400 metres across the Chao Phraya River, ICONSIAM is a perfect place to party the night away. With some of Thailand's biggest music artists entertaining partygoers into the New Year, the lavish celebration at ICONSIAM is not to be missed. Easily reachable by a dedicated boat service from Saphan Taksin BTS station, there will be plenty of food, drink and entertainment options to get you in the party spirt before the big countdown.
Asiatique
If you prefer a somewhat less congested atmosphere for New Year’s Eve in Bangkok, try Asiatique by the river – a five-minute taxi journey from Saphan Taksin BTS station. With expansive views out over the Chao Phraya, and plenty of restaurants to fill your stomach before counting down, Asiatique is a more comfortable alternative to the crowds in the city centre.
RCA
For traditional partygoers, the RCA area near Phetchaburi Road has tons of nightclub options. If you’re into rap, pop, EDM or international DJs, then this is the place to let your hair down. Buy a bottle of premium vodka or a round of beers and watch the young and trendy dance the night away. Just don’t forget to bring proof that you’re old enough to party.
The Commons
Fancy getting in the party spirit early? The Commons in Bangkok's hip and fashionable Thonglor district might just be the place. Opening at 5pm and offering free entry, this is certainly the spot to consider spending your final moments of the year. With live DJ sets, food vendors and plenty of drinks, The Commons can be easily reached via Thong Lo BTS station.
For those who seek a quiet and relaxed New Year’s Eve in Bangkok, there are always plenty of hotels offering fantastic New Year retreats. Why not consider joining a gala dinner at one of Bangkok's best hotels to celebrate the New Year: Centara Grand at CentralWorld? Or consider booking one of Bangkok's many river barges which will give you the opportunity to eat, drink and watch the sky light up with fireworks.
With so many fantastic options in one of Asia's biggest party and food capitals, where will you be spending the countdown?
