Explore Khao Yai Attractions
Winter is the perfect time to explore Thailand. The weather is cooler, the rainy season is behind us, and the perfect getaway destination awaits just a few hours’ drive of Bangkok. We’ll explore Khao Yai and tell you what you should see and do during a long weekend visit.
Why Visit Khao Yai?
Khao Yai National Park and the small-town look and feel of the areas around the park offer a world of difference from noisy and bustling Bangkok. There are also plenty of attractions to see and things to do in Khao Yai, meaning you can stay as busy as you want.
Khao Yai National Park is a literal breath of fresh air compared to Bangkok. It offers fresh air and a spectacular national forest with lots of wildlife and hiking trails to explore. The area is also home to wineries, a chocolate factory, and exotic animals you can feed and visit, among many other attractions. But before we can enjoy all the pleasures available, we first have to get there.
How to Get to Khao Yai from Bangkok
Khao Yai is northeast of Bangkok, and driving to the park takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Buses are also available from the Mo Chit Bus Terminal in Bangkok, which goes to Pak Chong, the main town near Khao Yai National Park. Taking a train to Pak Chong is another option; trains depart from Bangkok’s Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station (Bang Sue Grand Station). If you don't have your own car when you get there, you can rent a scooter, take a taxi or hail a ride-sharing service like Grab, although Grab service can be spotty around Pak Chong.
Where to Go and What to Do in Khao Yai
The area around the boundaries of Khao Yai National Park is also home to many businesses and sites offering plenty of activities and diversions for everyone, from active adventurers to families with young children. The list of fun and diverse activities includes:
- Hiking and camping in Khao Yai National Park, the third-largest park in Thailand
- Biking to the Korat Geopark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Touring Villa Musee Museum, a collection of colonial and traditional Thai houses
- Enjoying horseback riding, ziplining, go-karting, and ATV driving at Thong Somboon Club
- Visiting a dairy farm and helping with activities like milking and ice cream making at Farm Chokchai
- Swimming in Ban Tha Chang Spring
- Viewing the work of local artists at Khao Yai Art Museum
- Wine tasting at PB Valley Khao Yai Winery
- Feeding alpacas, donkeys and sheep at Primo Piazza
- Enjoying a round of golf at Khao Yai Gold Club, Kirimaya Golf Resort & Spa or Toscana Valley Country Club
You may find that a long weekend isn't enough time to check out all the attractions of Khao Yai, as it is a sizable area.
