Centara Hotels & Resorts Reinforces Commitment to China with Major Trade and Media Events in Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong

By Centara Hotels & Resorts
Posted on 17 Jan 25

Three-city roadshow provides the group’s latest updates to key local partners and top press, including expansion of Centara Mirage family concept to the Maldives and launch of The Centara Collection

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator, has successfully concluded a major roadshow in China, where its sales team provided the latest news and updates to its key travel trade and media partners at events in Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and staged a social gathering for Hong Kong’s top media representatives, reinforcing its long-term commitment to this all-important market.

Centara’s Vice President of Sales, Jurairat Mongkolwongsiri, and Vice President of Brand, Marketing & Digital, Tom Thrussell, met delegates in Hong Kong to highlight the company’s rich Thai heritage, authentic experiences and strong family values, and reveal Centara’s pioneering expansion in the family sector with the launch of Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives, a vibrant underwater world-themed resort. Newly opened in November 2024, this marked the first phase of The Atollia by Centara Hotels & Resorts, a brand-new multi-island destination that will also include Centara Grand Lagoon Maldives, which is set to open in 2025 to create a two-island, one-destination experience.

Building upon the award-winning Centara Mirage themed resort concept, which is already delighting parents and kids in Pattaya (Thailand), Mui Ne (Vietnam) and Dubai (UAE), Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives is a wonderland for families. Centred around a spectacular water park with the country’s longest lazy river, it features a collection of overwater & beachfront villas, family rooms with bunk beds, and an amazing array of facilities for all ages, including a “Nurture Zone” with a wild orchid garden, a colourful kids’ club, a Willy Wonka-inspired Candy Spa, and a choice of six restaurants and bars.

The launch of this latest family paradise, and Centara’s commitment to accessible hospitality, are supported by the results of the group’s “Family Travel Preferences Survey”, which was commissioned by Centara in 2024. The study revealed a strong preference among parents to explore the Maldives with their children, including a desire to “Let Kids Learn About Different Cultures & Try New Cuisines” and “Bring the Family Closer Together”, but it also raised concerns about the country’s high-cost and lack of children’s facilities. The launch of The Atollia by Centara Hotels & Resorts will alleviate these anxieties and meet the needs of families and couples alike.

Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives is set to follow the success of Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya, Centara Mirage Resort Mui Ne, and Centara Mirage Beach Resort Dubai, each of which is centred around a water park and tells its own story of adventure. These Centara Mirage themed resorts have become hugely popular for their immersive concepts and intuitive amenities, which enable parents to unwind while their kids enjoy unforgettable experiences. Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya, the Lost World-themed flagship resort that was awarded the title of “Thailand’s No.1 Family Resort”, has recently emerged from a major renovation to elevate its guest experiences to new levels of excellence.

Centara’s distinguished trade and media guests in China were also provided with exciting updates about The Centara Collection, which celebrated its global launch this month. Formerly known as the Centara Boutique Collection, this curated portfolio of one-of-a-kind, high-end properties is committed to “Inspiring Individuality” with highly distinctive hotel experiences. Each member is defined by its distinguishing features, such as original design, local authenticity and curated creativity.

Centara revealed that Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives, its acclaimed private island retreat, has now been renamed as Machchafushi Island Resort & Spa Maldives, as it becomes the first international member of The Centara Collection. This award-winning resort offers experiential stays with a deep connection to nature, including one of the Maldives’ finest house reefs, world-class diving, and other aquatic adventures. It is joined in The Centara Collection by two exceptional Thai hotels: Roukh Kiri Khao Yai, which is nestled amid the hills of Northeast Thailand, overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage-listed rainforest of Khao Yai National Park, and Varivana Resort Koh Phangan, a contemporary island getaway overlooking the sea in Southern Thailand.

The launch of Machchafushi Island Resort & Spa Maldives perfectly complements The Atollia by Centara Hotels & Resorts (comprising Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives and Centara Grand Lagoon Maldives) and the group’s popular adults-only private island retreat, Centara Ras Fushi Resort. This creates four distinct resort concepts and ensures attractive options for every traveller segment in the Maldives, one of the world’s most desirable destinations.

Looking ahead, Centara Hotels & Resorts will continue to strengthen its global portfolio and engage with China’s outbound tourism market, as it prepares to welcome a rising number of Chinese guests – including families – with its warm, genuine and authentic Thai hospitality.
