Designing and maintaining a garden is no easy feat. It is an art form in itself. At ROUKH KIRI KHAO YAI – The Centara Collection, we have created more than just a beautiful garden. Our organic garden plays an important role in the resort’s farm-to-table philosophy, providing fresh herbs, vegetables, and seasonal produce that are used daily in our kitchen.
Given the complexity and care required, we sought the advice of the resort’s gardeners Khun Aum, Khun Winai, and K. Mong to understand how they nurture and sustain the organic garden. According to them, creating a successful organic garden begins with one essential element: healthy soil.
“Healthy soil is the foundation of everything,” they explain. “We begin by testing and improving the soil with natural compost, which feeds the soil and allows plants to grow strong naturally.” Rich soil not only supports healthier crops but also helps retain moisture and improve long-term sustainability.
Choosing plants that suit the local climate and season is another key factor. Khao Yai’s cool weather and fertile landscape create ideal conditions for growing a wide variety of vegetables, herbs and fruits. Seasonal planting helps ensure stronger harvests while keeping the garden aligned with nature’s natural rhythm.
The garden also relies on natural methods instead of synthetic chemicals. Compost and organic mulch are used regularly to enrich the soil, suppress weeds, and maintain moisture levels. Crop rotation is carefully practiced to preserve soil fertility and reduce pests naturally over time.
Rather than using pesticides, the garden encourages beneficial insects and balanced ecosystems to help protect crops. This environmentally friendly approach allows the plants to grow in harmony with nature while supporting healthier produce.
For those interested in starting their own organic garden, the gardening team of the resort recommends beginning with a small space and observing it daily. “Water wisely, continue learning, and work together with nature,” he says. “Organic gardening is a gradual process that teaches patience and respect for the environment.”
This thoughtful approach reflects Roukh Kiri’s commitment to sustainability, wellness, and meaningful connections with the natural beauty of Khao Yai.
